Do you know what FBI file has been read more than any other? It is a one-page report that was sent to J. Edgar Hoover and was dated March 22, 1950. It was written by an Air Force investigator whose name has been redacted in the released report, so we do not know who wrote it.

However, it is a serious FBI file that has been kept top secret in the FBI Vault on Unexplained Phenomenon until recently.

What Did the FBI Report Say?

The 1950 FBI report on flying saucers is interesting to read.  In part, it says:

“Three so-called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only 3 feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture.”

The report, which was released in 2011, also explained that investigators believed that our radar had interfered with the controlling mechanisms of the flying saucers, which is why they crashed, and “no further evaluation was attempted.”

The FBI Report on Flying Saucers became available to the public in the FBI Vault of Unexplained Phenomenon, and was released in 2011 under the Freedom of Information Act. It has been read over one million times.

What Happened to the Flying Saucers?

Despite the extremely unusual nature of the report and the obvious effect that flying saucers could have had on our national defense at the time, many UFO investigators ask why the report states that no further evaluation of the flying saucers was attempted. Investigators wonder if this statement even true. If no further evaluation was attempted, then what happened to the flying saucers? Are they still somewhere in the desert or were they removed and taken to a military installation … such as Area 51?

What Happened in Roswell, New Mexico?

The FBI Vault on Unexplained Phenomenon also contains information on the 1947 reported sighting of a disc shaped object above Roswell, New Mexico. According to this report, a flying disc was spotted in the sky and later recovered. It was hexagonal in shape and was suspended from a balloon by a cable. The document also said that it resembled “a high-altitude weather balloon with a radar reflector.” This document has disappointed many UFO investigators who have long believed that a flying saucer was recovered in Roswell, New Mexico at the time.

The FBI Vault on Unexplained Phenomenon is fascinating and can currently be accessed online by anyone at:
