Albuquerque 4-Year Old Shot in Head During I-40 Road Rage; All Lanes Closed For Several Hours; Child Has Died

Albuquerque police shut down I-40 westbound after a 4-year old was shot in the head a little after 5PM on October 20, 2015.

“This is something that should not be happening in Albuquerque, New Mexico,” Chief Eden said in a news conference Tuesday evening. The chief went on during the news conference to say these types of actions were a “disrespect of human life”.

The chief is continuing to urge witnesses to come forward and tell the Albuquerque police what happened as the witnesses so far have given somewhat conflicting information.

“We are in desperate need of help to find this suspect.” The chief said.

It has been revealed that the girl was in the vehicle with her parents traveling down I-40 when the girl was shot in the head. Neither of the parents were injured.

At 6:20 PM, police chief revealed the 4-year old had passed away after being transported to a hospital.

While police are still unsure of what happened the shooting is believed to have stemmed from road rage. The police do have a description of the suspect’s vehicle, but have yet to locate it.

The police have promised there will be a heavy police presences in the area surrounding the shooting while the investigation continues as they actively look for the suspect’s vehicle.

The police expect I-40 going westbound to be shut down for several more hours and are asking everyone to be patient.
