This week on Musical Notes find information on Gregg Allman, David Bowie, Sir Paul McCartney, Adele, The Ramones, Drake, Eminem and a new series featuring music artists.

Musical Notes

Greg Allman:
Nine of the Allman Brothers Band that were released between 1969 and 1979 have been re-masterd using the original analog tapes for release on high quality 180 grain vinyl. The albums will be released July 22 individually or as a 15 LP boxed set. The collection is also being offered in a digital download. The boxed set is limited to 500 copies and comes in a solid wood Georgia Peach crate and includes a number of extras including an 8 gig UBS stick constructed to look like amplifier stack with all nine albums, posters, photos, magnets, guitar picks, buttons,playing cards, a hat, a turntable mat, and a cleaning cloth. The monster package weighs in at 26 pounds!

The albums will also feature the original artwork.

The original self titled debut release has been expanded to a double LP package. The other re-mastered albums are:

“Win, Lose or Draw”
“Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil”, Dollar Gas”

David Bowie:
Rock legend David Bowie was many things to many people – rock icon, fashion statement, and musical genius to name a few.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America are honouring Bowie with the Board of Directors’ Tribute Award. Actress Tilda Swinton is set to accept the posthumous presentation on June 6. “Lazarus” star Michael C. Hall will also take the stage to pay tribute to the rocker.

Swinton portrayed Bowie’s wife in the video “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)”. Hall performed the starring role in the Off Broadway production of “Lazarus”.

The CFDA Awards presentation is being hosted by comedic actor Joel McHale. Jennifer Hudson is also scheduled to perform.

Donna Karan, Alessandro Michele, and Norma Kamali are also set to receive awards.

Sir Paul McCartney:
To help promote his upcoming album Sir Paul has created a virtual reality series. The series will feature the stories from a few of the rocker’s songs – “Dance Tonight”, “Coming Up”, “My Valentine”, “Mull of Kintyre” and “Early Days”.

The first episodes are available now.

Sir Paul has joined with Jaunt to create his new series which was recorded in McCartney’s own home studio.

Fans can access the episodes via the Jaunt VR app available the various app stores for a variety of devices.

Due out June 10 “PURE McCartney” is a career spanning album.

Adele:
It has been a very busy and rewarding year for British pop star Adele. Late last year she released her album “25” which went on to top the sales charts for 2015 in just six weeks.

Since then she has been touring and has earned several awards including Songwriter of the Year from the Ivor Novello Awards on May 19; for the second time.

The Ivor Novello (Ivors) Awards focus on the songwriters and composers.

The Ramones:
It has been 40 years since The Ramones first took the stage in 1976 launching the punk rock era; and to celebrate that momentous occasion the band is releasing a new deluxe edition package of that 1976 album with three CD’s and a vinyl LP.

Along with the original album, the set includes outtakes, demos, and single mixes. The third CD features live performances from The Roxy – both sets. The vinyl LP includes the mono mix of the album. The package also includes a hardcover book.

The package has been limited to just 19,760 numbered copies.

Tommy, Joey, and Johnny all died as a result of cancer; while Dee Dee died as a result of a heroin overdose.

Drake:
The Canadian artist released his newest album “Views” on April 29. Since that release the album has been smashing streaming records.

So far Drake has had his album streamed 572 million times in the United States alone.

The album was streamed 246 million times in the first week alone – more than two times that of Beyonce’s “Lemonade” with 115 million streams. The album has continued to break records each week since its release.

Nature Series:
The Discovery Channel is planning a six part series “Hello World”. The series features six different music artists – Dave Matthews, Joan Jett, Steven Tyler, Usher, Chiristina Aguilera, and Ellie Goulding – who will look at the world of nature that includes their own music.

Airing two episodes on one night for three weeks, the series is set for a July 9 debut.

Eminem:
Eminem is celebrating 16 years of his “The Marshall Mathers LP” by offering up some limited edition items; among them are a cassette tape of the album, a 3D cover, dog tags made from re-purposed wood, and even bricks taken from the rapper’s childhood home – the home was featured on the cover of the album.

There are only 700 of the bricks available and each comes with Eminem’s autograph and a certificate of authenticity. Eminem even provides a display case for fans to show off their brick and a commemorative plaque.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the items will go to charity via his foundation – the Marshall Mathers Foundation – that works with at risk youth.
