Many fans of The Walking Dead who belong to The Spoiling Dead Fans Facebook Page and group and forum are upset because AMC has threatened legal action of the legitimate victim of Negan’s beloved barbed wire bat, Lucille, is revealed by the administrators of the page.
AMC has discussed the last episode of season 6 of The Walking Dead, but with limits, and they do not want anyone else spoiling their cliffhanger.
The death of a main character and a cliffhanger that only barely hints at who it might be has had fans in a tizzy for months now and there has been a great deal of discussion about it on social media. One of the most popular spoiler groups, The Spoiling Dead Fans, has actually been contacted by Dennis Wilson, the attorney for AMC Holdings, LLC. According to The Spoiling Dead Fan’s Facebook Page,
AMC tells us that we made some claim somewhere that says we received “copyright protected, trade secret information about the most critical plot information in the unreleased next season of The Walking Dead” and that we announced we were going to disclose this protected information.
The Spoiling Dead Fans say that they never made such a claim and they are not sure where AMC got this information from and AMC did not tell them where this information came from.
Of course, fans on the page can discuss who the victim is (called LV, short for Lucille Victim, among the fans on the page) but The Spoiling Dead Fans admins cannot comment on the subject, discuss it, or even deny or confirm anything, even if they have proof.
Some fans of The Walking Dead are understanding and respect the fact the AMC is protecting their interest. Other fans are less than impressed and think that AMC is pulling a power play move because they know that whether or not AMC is in the right, The Spoiling Dead Fans does not have the resources to defend themselves in court, should it come to that.
@AMC_TV high priced bully 4 harassing the spoiling dead. AMC SUKS! Not against law for fans to make predictions & discuss @WalkingDead_AMC
An official announcement from The Spoiling Dead Fans staff said,
Just to clarify, we will continue to post all of our filming updates, eyewitness reports and all photos taken legally throughout the filming season just like we always have. We are by no means getting shut down. It’s still business as usual here, we just won’t be spoiling the biggest moment so far.
