‘The Last Ship’ Season Premier Postponed Out Of Respect To Lives Lost In Orlando Mass Shooting

Season 3 of The Last Ship was due to premier tonight but TNT has decided to postpone the first episode because the storyline has some similarities to the mass shooting that occurred in Orlando, Florida in the early hours of the morning.

According to CNN Money, TNT released a statement that said that the season opener has been postponed and, “Our hearts are with the victims and their families.”

The official announcement:

The season premiere of The Last Ship includes a scene that takes place at a nightclub in Vietnam where there is a shooting.  The executives at TNT felt that it would be insensitive to premiere this season opener on the same day that over 50 people were shot dead in Orlando and upwards of 53 people were injured.

A new date for the season premiere of The Last Ship has not been set at this time.

This is not the first time that a television show has been postponed due to real life events.  One of the most memorable situations would be just after the attacks on the World Trade Towers on September 11, 2001.  The series 24 had a pilot scheduled where a commercial plane was blown up. The premier was delayed for a week and the scene was cut.

Movies were also rescheduled at this time including Collateral Damage, starring Arnold Swarzenegger and Big Trouble.
