For the September 9 edition of Free Music Fridays at the Niagara Falls Hard Rock Cafe the band Hit Parade was scheduled to perform. But due to a hand injury on the guitar player, the band was unable to perform.
Music teacher and multi genre musician Sam Marabella and his band stepped in to provide the musical entertainment for the evening.
With Sam on the acoustic guitar, harmonica, and vocals; Scot on the electric guitar; John on the drums, “John on the stand up bass the band performed what Sam calls roots rock music. The quartet performed a variety of songs that had been stripped down and arranged by Sam to create an unique sound that hearkened back to the days of the old smokey dives.
While the songs may have come from Rock-a-billy, Bluegrass, Blues, Rock, Jazz, and Pop; Sam truly made each osng his own with unique arrangements and tempo changes.
During the course of the night Sam Marabella and his band’s performance included a number of Bob Dyland songs, “Creep” by Radiohead, music from the Tragically Hip, “Gypsy Soul”, and “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel.
The last minute musical change brought with it a nice change of pace from the typical Pop/Rock sounds that fill the airwaves today and demonstrated what can happen to a song when it is performed by an accomplished musician.
