NASCAR Issues Charlotte Penalties

It was a rough weekend for the NASCAR teams with all the rainy weather from Hurricane Matthew. But it became an even rougher week for some teams after NASCAR levied a large number of penalties to teams for failing various areas of inspection.

The laser and template segments of inspection continue to be a major problem for the teams.

The Richard Childress Racing number 27 team driven by Paul Menard failed the laser inspection in pre-qualifying three times at the Bank of America 500 in Charlotte Motorr Speedway. As a result, the team was issued a written warning and will lose 15 minutes of practice time this weekend at Kansas Speedway for the Hollywwod Casino 400.

The Motorspoirts Group number 30 team driven by Josh Wise failed pre-qualifying template inspection three times at Charlotte and was given a written warning and will also lose 15 minutes of practice time in Kansas.

The Roush Fenway Racing number six team driven by Trevor Bayne
The Tommy Baldwin Racing number seven team driven by Regan Smith
The Joe Gibbs Racing number 20 team driven by Matt Kenseth
The Stewart-Haas Racing number 41 team driven by Kurt Busch
The Chip Ganassi Racing number 42 team driven by Kyle Larson
The Furniture Row Racing number 78 team driven by Martin Truex Jr
and the Hendrick Motorsports number 88 team driven by Alex Biowman
were all issued written warnings for failing the template segment of pre-race inspection twice.

The Roush Fenway Racing number 17 team driven by Ricky Stenhouse Jr

The Hendrick Motorsports number 24 team driven by Chase Elliott
The Richard Childress Racing number 31 team driven by Ryan Newman
The Front Row Motorsports number 34 team driven by Chris Buescher
and the Richard Petty Motorsports number 43 team driven by Aric Almirola all received written warnings for for failing the laser station inspection twice during pre-qualifying inspection.

The Stewart-Haas Racing number four team driven by Kevin Harvick
the Stewart-Haas Racing number 10 team driven by Danica Patrick
The Stewart-Haas Racing number 14 team driven by Tony Stewart
and the Hendrick Motorsports number 88 team driven by Alex Bowman
were all issued written warnings for failing pre-qualifying template inspection.

In the Xfinity Series the Richard Childress Racing number three team driven by Ty Dillon was issues a written warning for failing the laser station during pre-race inspection twice.

As more teams attempt to push the limits and must go through the inspection process more than once, the teams risk losing practice time or even qualifying time. NASCAR allows enough time to get all 40 cars through the inspection process in plenty of time and does not adjust the practice or qualifying schedule for teams that must go through the inspection process multiple times.
