2016 MTV European Music Awards

The 2016 MTV European Music Awards were held in Rotterdam, Netherlands this year and was hosted by Bebe Rexha. It was a night of musical performances and honouring musical acts from around the world.

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber and American pop star Beyonce topped the list of nominees with five. Britain’s Adele followed with four nominations.

Bruno Mars opens the show with a performance.

DNCE follows with a performance of a medley of their songs.

Host BebeRexh and DJ Martin Garrix gave a performance.

The award for Best Electronic went to Martin Garrix.

Shawn Mendes gave a performance.

The award for Best Live went to Twenty One Pilots. The duo accepted the award via a video. They are on the road touring.

The EMA trophy this year is purple in honour of Prince.

Swedish artist Zara Larrson gave a performance.

The award for Best Male Artist went to Shawn Mendes.

Green Day gave a performance.

A green headed G-Eazy joins host Bebe Rexha on stage to introduce The Weeknd for a performance.

The award for Best New Artist went to Zara Larsson.

The Kings of Leon gave a performance.

The award for Best Video was for “Starboy” by The Weeknd with Daft Punk.

Host Bebe Rexha returns for a performance of her newest single.

Lukas Graham gave a performance.

The winners of the Worldwide Act went to:
Wizkid from Nigeria
Shawn Mendes from Canada
GOT7 from Korea
Maluma from Colombia
Zara Larsson from Sweden
and Troye Sivan fro mAustralia

Afrojack gave a performance.

One Republic performed

And ending the night’s festivities was a presentation by Idris Elba of the Global Icon Award to American rockers Green Day. Billie Joe commented on how nice it was to be out of America at the moment; referring to the upcoming presidential election. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers performed their hit “American Idiot”.
