‘How It Should Have Ended’ released a new YouTube video earlier this week. The long-awaited version of “Silent Night” sung by our favorite wookie Chewie was finally shared.
The most recent version isn’t that original. Unfortunately, Scott Anderson made it in 1999 and it has been stolen numerous of times. However, Anderson has given his blessing for the use of it in the most recent video, according to CNET.
There are other Star Wars Christmas YouTube videos out there. Here’s a rundown of the top five to get you in the Christmassy spirit for 2016.
#5: Star Wars ‘Let It Flow’
Not quite a Christmas song, but there are Christmas links. Frozen was Disney’s popular Christmas movie of 2013 and Star Wars is now owned by Disney. The song “Let It Go” also fits with Anakin Skywalker’s backstory. Yes, the third movie is absolutely terrible, but the backstory of Darth Vader not so much.
Sing along to “Let It Flow” with Anakin/Vader in the fifth on the list.
#4. Star Wars: Christmas Awakens
It’s time for Darth Vader to become the Grinch. In this video, we hear the story of Darth Vader learning about Christmas and wanting to stop it. Really, the video takes A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and gives it a Star Wars twist, with kids playing roles like Obi Wan and Padamae. All the songs used are created to the popular tunes throughout the movies.
#3. 12 Days of ‘Star Wars’ Christmas
Ginger SNAPS’ video only has just over 9,000 views at the time of writing this, but that could be because it’s not the easiest to find. It took a few search terms to find it. The words of “12 Days of Christmas” are adapted to suit the various elements of Star Wars, including four decent films and two stolen droids. It’s all done by one man with excellent harmonies throughout.
#2. Chewie Sings ‘Silent Night’
The newest Star Wars Christmas video hits the list at the number 2 spot. How It Should Have Ended has got creative with the video by adding various clips of Chewie throughout all the movies that he appears in. We’re not sure which is funnier: Chewie singing “Silent Night” or Han Solo’s additions throughout the video–along with his unimpressed looks.
#1. The ‘Star Wars’ Song
Last year, James Cordon and Chris Hardwick got together on The Late Late Show with James Cordon to celebrate the release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Armed with Chewie on the keys and a stormtrooper on the cello, the two sang a rendition of “Merry Christmas to You.” This Christmas you may find yourself wishing everyone “May the Force Be with You,” although that sentiment is usually reserved for May 4.
