Declassified Report: Putin Ordered Hacking of DNC to Undermine US Election
Friday, The US intelligence community released a declassified report that details how Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an “influence campaign” aimed at helping to elect Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. In plain language the report states that, “Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election. “The intelligence report continued to outline what outcome that the Russians hoped would develop with the infiltration of personal and group emails. The election of Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.
The report states that, “Russia’s goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency. We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump.” Donald Trump denies any such influence occurred. In a statement released Friday afternoon, the President Elect remarked that, “there was absolutely no effect on the outcome of the election, including the fact that there was no tampering whatsoever with voting machines.”
Problem is, intelligence reports do not say voting machines were impacted by the hacking. No, it was the undermining of one candidate over another and a clear pattern of propaganda to smear a candidate, Hillary Clinton. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence also released a statement concurring that “Intelligence Community did not make an assessment of the impact that Russian activities had on the outcome of the 2016 election.”
The Department of Homeland Security also stated in the report, that the Kremlin used their media outlets such as RT News Site and Sputnik to produce propaganda news that was created. in a variety of languages for international audiences, with the only goal in mind, to elect Donald Trump as President and to cast doubt to the qualifications of Secretary Clinton.
The report also states that agents for Russia targeted or compromised “elements of multiple U.S state or local electoral boards, but not the systems involved in vote tallying.” The report goes on to say that “Since early 2014, Russian intelligence has researched US electoral processes and related technology and equipment.” The report states that RT, the Russian news site, RT ran numerous reports on alleged US election fraud and voting machine vulnerabilities contending that US election results cannot be trusted and do not reflect the popular will. Yet, President Elect Trump tweeted that the intelligence communities have no real proof and that the investigation amounts to a “witch hunt.”
The reports also suggest that Russian “trolls” used social media sites to create doubt and cast dispersions on Secretary Clinton. Through the use of Facebook, Twitter and other sites, the Russian trolls appeared as Americans to create and join groups that would amplify stories on scandals about Secretary Clinton and the role of WikiLeaks in the election campaign. In other words, trolls worked Facebook to continue spreading the false news reports on and about Secretary Clinton. By infiltrating Facebook groups, just one troll could post to thousands the Kremlin’s viewpoint without ever being outed as a tool of the Russian propaganda machine.
President Elect Donald Trump met with leaders in the U.S intelligence community Friday and with it, he received details into how Russia is attempting to influence politics in the United States. Trump has stated he does not believe that Russia influence the election. Propaganda from Russia is still ongoing. Seventeen different intelligence agencies have now stated they believe that Russia is behind the hacking, not another nation, or some guy in his parent’s basement, and that only Russia was behind this unprecedented attack on the United States. The next President should affirm the intelligence community’s findings and address the illegal actions of Russia on the United States.
