Manhunt Underway in Orlando for Alleged Cop Killer

Breaking News: In a yet-developing incident, an off-duty female police officer was shot multiple times by a reported shoplifter that she was trying to stop. The shooter got away from the Pine Hills Walmart in Orlando, where a manhunt is currently underway.

After Master Sergeant Debra Clayton, a 17-year veteran of the Orlando Police Force, was mortally wounded, both emergency medical teams and police responded to the call for assistance. A sheriff’s deputy spotted the alleged shooter in the parking lot, where the deputy attempted to apprehend the man who shot at the deputy and his unmarked vehicle before carjacking the deputy’s car.

The suspect, who has been identified as Markeith DaMangzlo Loyd, remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to Orlando Police Chief John Mina. Anyone who sees the suspect should not approach him but call 911 instead.

Loyd is not a stranger to law enforcement, who is also wanted in connection with the December murder of his pregnant girlfriend.

Loyd’s Facebook post on November 30, 2016, almost two weeks before his girlfriend was murdered provides insight into the wanted man’s state of mind: Loyd wrote, “Goals!!!! To be on America’s most wanted”

As many as 17 schools in the Pine Hills/Orlando area are on lockdown as the manhunt continues with police from several jurisdictions looking for Loyd.

It’s also been confirmed that an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy was struck by a vehicle as he was responding to the shooting. The deputy died as a result of his injuries; his name has not been released pending notification of the family.
