On January 9, ABC announced a changed to the planned schedule for later this month. Just 10 days before Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder returned to screens, the network announced they would be postponed for a one-hour inauguration special American’s First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington.
TGIT fans are not happy with the current decisions. Fans were already annoyed that the shows were going on a break from mid-November and were grateful that it was just a short one. Waiting an extra week to find out the outcomes of the cliffhangers isn’t something they wanted to see happen.
Throughout the winter break, ABC had promoted that the two shows would return with all new episodes on January 19. Scandal would also air its Season 6 premiere on the same night. The decision for the pre-inauguration special has been a last minute one, since ABC says the decision to move the programs to January 26 was to make sure all three shows got all new episodes at the same time.
Some conspiracy theorists have wondered whether the move of Scandal is due to the content. Scandal Season 6 will start with a presidential election involving a former First Lady running for the position. ABC states that the decision to delay the three shows by a week has nothing to do with this.
Fans have taken to social media to share their disappointment. Various Grey’s Anatomy Facebook fan groups have individuals sharing how annoyed they are. Most are annoyed at the last-minute decision. The special could have been arranged much sooner, since the American Presidential Election took place before the shows went on their winter break.
Some fans took to Twitter to make it very clear that they would not watch the inauguration special. Scandal fans have waited longer than others for their season premiere. The show was pushed to a midseason start due to Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. Fans are even angrier because the delay is due to President-Elect Trump.
All the three shows’ fans have shared GIFs to show what they really think of the decision. They have included Derek Shepherd holding a baseball bat, Cristina holding Meredith back as she screams and cries, and Dean Winchester from Supernatural rolling his eyes. Sure, the last isn’t part of the TGIT line-up, but the Supernatural fandom does have a GIF for everything and that’s the case right here.
What do you think about the move from January 19 to January 26?
