Wrestler Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka Dies

Hall of Fame professional wrestler Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka died January 15 in Pompano Beach, Florida as a result of stomach cancer at the age of 73.

Considered one of the original high fliers, Snuka was known in wrestling circles for his jumping – the Superfly Splash – from the top rope of the wrestling ring or steel cage.

A member of the WWE Hall of Fame, Snuka has been a part of the World Wrestling Federation and the World Wrestling Entertainment. He would later wrestle in Japan and Eastern Championship Wrestling ( Extreme Championship Wrestling).

He is also known for his feuds with fellow wrestlers Magnificent Muraco and Rowdy Roddy Piper.

But not all was sunshine and roses for Snuka; in 1983 his then girlfriend Nancy Argentino died and the death was ruled a homicide. It wasn’t until 2015 that law enforcement authorities filed charges against Snuka. Those charges were dropped less than a month ago after a judge ruled that Snuka was not competent to stand trial.

Along with his wrestling prowess, Snuka has appeared in a number of television productions including “Spectrum Wrestling”, “WWF Championship Wrestling”, “Summerslam”, “Royal Rumble”, “WWF Superstars”, “World Wrestling Federation”, “Eastern Championship Wrestling”, “Heroes of Wrestling”, and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”.Along with his wrestling prowess, Snuka has appeared in a number of television productions including “Spectrum Wrestling”, “WWF Championship Wrestling”, “Summerslam”, “Royal Rumble”, “WWF Superstars”, “World Wrestling Federation”, “Eastern Championship Wrestling”, “Heroes of Wrestling”, and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”.
