‘Lambada’ Singer Loalwa Braz Killed

Brazilian singer Loalwa Braz will forever be tied to the international one hit wonder “La Lambada” as the lead singer for the French band Kaoma.

On January 19 she was found dead in her car not far from her Rio de Janiero home, the victim of a violent crime. The 63 year old was found in her burned out car in what Brazilian police say was a robbery gone awry.  The exact details surrounding her death are not known at this time.

The catchy dance tune was taken from the Bolivian Folk song “Llorando Se Fue” and set to an Afro-Brazilian beat.

Jennifer Lopez fans will recognize the song from her hit with Pitbull “On the Floor”.

Don Omar also used the song in his track “Taboo”.

After spending 10 years in Paris performing with Kaoma, Braz returned to Rio where she continued as a solo artist and ran an inn.

Born to a musical family in Rio de Janiero, Braz began her professional singing career when she was 13 years old. She has also recorded with fellow Brazilian musicians Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethania, Gal Costa, and Caetano Veloso.
