Halima Aden, a Somali-born Muslim, proves that beauty may be hijab deep after ‘knocking ‘em dead’ during her NYFW debut! The over-the-top-gorgeous, 19-year-old has become a role model and an inspiration for all muslim women in America.

She wowed at the New York Fashion Week, wearing a hijab on the Yeezy Season 5 runway, stealing the show while she stood up for women and religious freedom all at once. Born in a Kenyan refugee camp and later relocating to Minnesota, Halima turned heads just last year when she competed in Minnesota’s Miss USA competition wearing a hijab and a burkini for the swimsuit competition, says the Huffington Post
. She was one of 45 women in the competition and made it to the semifinal round.
Today Halima is working as a model and admits, “I didn’t really have modelling in mind. I wanted to spread a positive message about beauty and diversity, and to show other young Muslim women that there is room for them.”
At the very least for this beauty, her courage and her steadfastness has indeed worked well for her- she just signed a major contract with IMG models. The president of IMG, Ivan Bart, shared, “I found that she was just so brave to stick to what she really believed in and yet go after the American dream of being in a beauty contest.”
It just keeps getting better for Halima. As early as this week she landed her first magazine cover for CR Fashion Book Issue #10. However, as a coincidence it also just so happens to be the magazine brand’s first issue after it partnered with Hearst magazines! In the issue, she not only graces the cover with her hijab but has a full interview with sister Somalian and famous model, Iman on the inside!
One thing for sure- we’ll be seeing a lot more of Halima Aden in 2017 and beyond, as fashion, and hopefully, religious tolerance, forward into the future.
