Keeping in mind that many of the disney movies were based on old fairy tales that always portray the princess or the ‘damsel, who is usually a strong, handsome young man or prince, there is a modern tendency to ‘make-over’ the plot. Today, the former helpless personalities of the women are now revised to showcase women more independent and strong as well as more capable. And as Entertainment Weekly points out, this is the case with the soon-to-be-released film- Beauty and The Beast. However, this particular review also points out that many of the other Disney movies did that updating- retaining something of the old version while adding the new- with the undeniably ‘other-worldly’ touch of Disney magic.

The EW review claims that this 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast could have used a bit more of the old magic. They suggest that, “Beauty and the Beast is a movie that can’t quite figure out what it wants to say that it didn’t already say back in 1991…” However he does go on to say that “Emma Watson is certainly one of the film’s stronger elements as Belle, the bookish and beautiful free spirit, whose imagination and ambitions are too big for her small, provincial French village. With her doe eyes, sunny smile, and the smattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose, Watson is a made-to-order Disney heroine. There is an innocence and intelligence to her that fits the character perfectly.”

Overall he says about the movie, “It’s fine and funny and sweet and lush and some of the songs are infectious…” but, goes on to say he isn’t sure why they couldn’t do more with it. This news could be slightly disappointing to anxious fans but most will counter that they’ll wait until they see it themselves. And although the review gives the movie a B- there’s still little doubt that the movie will be a popular hit!

In other Beauty and The Beast news, Josh Groban will be singing “Evermore”- the Beast’s introspective love song about Belle. Disney just recently released Groban’s marvellous rendition of the ballad. The music for “Evermore” was actually written by Alan Menken back in 1991 for the original animated version but the words were written specifically for the new movie by lyricist Tim Rice. Dan Stevens, who plays the beast in the upcoming film, sings the beast’s version of the song for the movie, so fans will have to wait till March 17 to hear that rendition.

Two additional new songs were created for the new Beauty and the Beast: “Days in the Sun” and “How Does a Moment Last Forever.”

Here’s Groban’s version of the song “Evermore” below.

Also take a listen and a look at John Legend and Arianna belting out the title song for Beauty and the Beast.
The two popular singer’s take on “Beauty and the Beast” will headline the new movie’s soundtrack which includes Celine Dion’s performance of the new song “How Does A Moment Last Forever.” The entire movie soundtrack will be released March 10.
