Blind Auditions Part 5 on ‘The Voice’

After the two hour broadcast on Monday night, the teams are at least half full as the blind auditions continue for the teams to build their teams of 12 singers.

The Voice

The first singer of the night is Johnny Gates. His band has opened for Sir Rod Stewart. Johnny has chosen the Sir Rod song “Maggie May” for his audition. Gwen and Blake turned their chairs together. Blake was standing up playing air guitar. Alicia pushed her button near the end of the song. Alicia said that Johnny has an outrageous voice; adding that she can hear Rod Stewart’s influence in his performance. Gwen said that Johnny has an incredible voice and such presence on stage. Adam thanked Johnny for doing the song. Blake said that Johnny should stay in the rock genre and would garner a big fan base on the show. Saying that us garage band kids have to stick together, Johnny chose Gwen to be his coach.

Father Malik Davage chose “Sure Thing” for his audition. Adam was the only coach to push his button. Malik was very emotional after his audition. He got hugs from Gwen and Adam and Adam had him sit in the red chair. Adam noted that Malik needs some work but if Malik does the work, he could go far.

Sixteen year old Laruen Judd has been singing most of her life. She chose the Cyndi Lauper hit “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” for her audition, putting her own spin on the song. Gwen and Alicia pushed their buttons together with Blake following suit. Gwen said that it was exciting that Lauren was only 16 adding it was great she already had her own style. Calling the performance cool, Alicia said that she thought there were two singers. Noting that Lauren has a unique sound, Blake said that she has a tiny and powerful voice. Lauren chose Alicia to be her coach.

Hotel worker Paul Adrian turned to music after the death of his Military Police father was killed in Iraq. He chose the Ray Charles song “I Got a Woman” for his audition but failed to turn any chairs. Gwen said that he sounded like he was older; adding that he had a strong tone but it sounded a little wobbly. Adam noted that he could tell Paul was trying to dance as he sang. Alicia said that Paul had a great vibe. Blake encouraged Paul to come back but to think about being more still when he sang.

Sixteen year old Caroline Sky chose to perform a song by one of her idols – Carole King with “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”. Gwen was the first coach to turn her chair, Blake joined her near the end of the song. Alicia called her so talented. Gwen said that she loved Caroline’s voice; adding she had such control and patience. Blake noted that he has had a lot of success with young talent on the show; adding that he could help Caroline live her dream on the show and Caroline could help Blake live the girl dream. Saying that both artists are amazing, Caroline chose Gwen to be her coach.

The final audition of the night was from Josh Hoyer who is a bartender/musician. He chose “Oh, Girl” for his audition. It took a while but Gwen and Blake finally pushed their buttons for Josh. Adam noted that Josh had a lot of soulful wisdom in his voice; adding that Josh did a good job. Gwen said that she enjoyed the performance; adding she doesn’t have anybody like Josh on her team. Noting that Josh deserves to be on the show and he would love the chance to work with Josh; adding that there is nobody on the show like him. Alicia said that Josh did a beautiful job.
