‘Having a Party’ in the Bear’s Den

On March 17 Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes made a return visit to the Bear’s Den Showroom in the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino. In honour of St. Patrick’s Day the band was introduced as Southside O’Johnny and the Asbury McJukes.

Donned in a green shirt Johnny brought the party atmosphere to the Bear’s Den freely interacting with the crowd even at one point coming down from the stage to sing with one of the Bear’s Den ushers.

Bringing a full band including horn players, Johnny definitely let it be known he was there to have a good time with his opening song – “I’m Just Hee for a Good Time” followed by “Play the Fool”. Johnny informed the full house of Southside Johnny fans that if you sit up front then you have to sing. After performing “Got My Mojo Working” and the “Wrong Side of Town”, Johnny asked the fans what songs they wanted to hear. Obliging his request, some fans called out a number of song titles.

It wasn’t long before fans were chair dancing, singing along, and even up and dancing in the aisles.

Other songs during the night included “Don’t Waste My Time Baby”, “Walk Away Renee”, “Talk to Me”, “This Time It’s for Real”, “The Fever”, a clip of “Danny Boy” “Don’t Want to Go Home”, “Create a Disturbance in Your Mind”, and “Having a Party”.

Only a couple of days after a major snow storm, Johnny noted that snow out his window high up in the Hotel, saying that up here people mow their snow like their lawns. The Jersey native remarked that he had had enough of the snow.

Even after performing an encore the fans clamoured for more, clapping and shouting until after the house lights came up.
