Is ‘Supernatural’ Season 12 New Tonight, April 20, 2017?

Will there be a new episode of Supernatural Season 12  on April 20, 2017? The CW has announced that there will not be a new episode tonight. Here’s a look at what to expect from the Winchesters coming up.

It is an odd choice of week to take a break, based on the episodes. Last week’s episode didn’t exactly focus on the overall story arc of the British Men of Letters or on Lucifer’s baby. The week before would have been a better place for a week off instead.

However, the CW has decided that this week the majority of its shows would take a week off. This is likely due to the Neilsen TV sweeps that will start from April 27 and last a month, helping the CW decide how to set its schedule for the 2017-2018 season.

That means there are no new episodes of Supernatural Season 12 on April 20, 2017. Instead, fans will get a repeat of a previous Season 12 episode called “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell.” A hellhound has escaped and making its way around a campsite.

The choice of rerun is linked to the upcoming episode. Castiel will return, along with Kelly Kline and Daigon. The Winchesters have a month to find Kelly before she gives birth to Lucifer’s child, but it’s unclear if they know that the birth will kill Kelly. The British Men of Letters don’t appear in the trailer, but that doesn’t mean they’re not going to be in the episode.

There are now just five episodes left if the season is the same length as most other Supernatural seasons. The CW hasn’t confirmed the season finale date just yet, but it is likely around May 25, 2017. There shouldn’t be any more breaks after this week.

Supernatural Season 12 will return on April 27, 2017 with an all-new episode at 8pm on the CW.
