Police responded to a report of an active shooter at Pine Kirk Care Center near Columbus, Ohio at 7:30 a.m. EST on Friday, May 12, 2017. Early reports indicate a Kirkersville police officer who was wounded at the scene has succumbed to his injuries at Licking Memorial Hospital.

Update May 13, 2o17: Domestic Violence at Root of Kirkersville, Ohio Shootings
The officer has been identified as Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Disario, 36, father of six children and expectant father of another child, who had been in his job three weeks at the time of Friday’s shooting. The shooting of Disario has been described as that of an ambush.
Lt. Robert Sellers of the Ohio Highway Patrol has announced the situation is contained and that the shooter has been “neutralized,” “There is no threat to the public. The situation has concluded.”
Although the danger of an active shooter has passed, this remains a developing story as the details of exactly what happened inside the Pine Kirk Care Center are slowly being released by authorities in the village of Kirkersville, home to about 500 people.
Two nursing home employees were reportedly killed, with at least two other people wounded, one of which may be the shooter, but that has not yet been verified.
May 12, 2017, 3:30 p.m. EST: Authorities have confirmed that four people are dead as a result of the shootings that took place in Kirkersville, Ohio earlier today. Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Eric Disario, 36, was shot first in a street near the Pine Kirk Care Center when he responded to a report of a man with a gun and radioed in that he had that man in sight. Disario was found by other officers in the street, critically wounded. The police chief later died at Licking Memorial Hospital.
The gunman then entered the nursing home where he shot two of the care center employees, who along with the suspected gunman were found dead by police officers who entered the building. None of the nursing home residents were injured.
Authorities have yet to positively identify the shooter. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is in charge of the ongoing investigation.
