After the double elimination last week on “The Voice” only eight singers remain for the semi finals. Only Blake has all three of his team members in tact after Adam lost two of his team members in the instant save.
This week the artists perform two songs – a solo performance and a duet with a fellow contestant. And for the first time on “The Voice” the duets will count in the votes. There are no coaches comments and voting only counts via the iTunes download or via Twitter. Casting a vote for the duets gives a vote to both singers.
With the finals onlyh one week away, half of the remaining singer will be eliminated on the Tuesday results show; leaving only the four finalists.
Team Gwen’s Hunter Plake gets the night of music started off with his rendition of “With or Without You” by U2. Host Carson Daly noted that it was the way to kick off the semi finals. Blake said that it was Hunter’s best vocal performance by a mile; adding that Hunter honoured the original song. Alicia was totally swept away by the performance; saying that it was like being at Hunter’s concert. Adam called the straight forward production by Hunter awesome. Calling Hunter so talented, Gwen said that Hunter’s voice was strong and beautiful.
The first duet of the night was a performance from Vanessa Ferguson and Chris Blue of Coach Alicia Keys own song “If I Ain’t Got You”. The duo brought the coaches to their feet and Carson calling them a super duo.
Team Blake’s TSoul took on Aretha Franklin with “Ain’t No Way”. Carson said nice job. Noting that it was one of her all time favourite songs, Alicia said that it was like an Otis Redding rendition of an Aretha Franklin song. Blake said that he was so proud of TSoul and added his congratulations.
Team Gwen’s Brennley Brown had some fun with “Suds in the Bucket”. Blake noted that he felt like he was watching a 15 year old Brennley for the first time. Calling Brennley so gifted, Gwen said that she sometimes forgets that Brennley is only 15; adding that she did a great job.
Aliyah and Hunter performed the James Bay song “Let it Go” and had Carson saying that the duets were awesome tonight.
Team Blake’s Lauren Duski sang “Ghost in This House”. Adam noted that it was nice to see Lauren do a simple and elegantly pure song. Noting that it isn’t an easy song to sing, Blake called the performance absolutely monumental; adding that it will be interesting to see how Country music fans react to the performance.
Jesse Larson and TSoul performed the Stevie Wonder hit “I Wish”. Carson noted that the duets have been fun tonight; adding that they felt like the Blues Brothers but since they both have beards…maybe they should be the Beard Brothers.
Team Alicia’s Chris Blue took everyone to church with “Take Me to the King” and brought the coaches to their feet with the audience offering a rousing response. Saying that she knew he could do it, Alicia said that Chris let all of his walls down and got out of his way to give a moving performance.
Team Alicia’s Vanessa Ferguson sang “Superstar”. Saying that he granddaddy wanted to see her in a dress, she wore a dress for the performance. Carson said that she looked stunning and sounded incredible. Alicia said that Vanessa is blooming and blossoming and she couldn’t be more proud.
Country girls Lauren Duski and Brennley Brown performed the Leann Rimes song “Good Hearted Woman”.
Team Adam’s only remaining team member, Jesse Larson revealed during rehearsals that his wife is pregnant. Jesse performed “I Was Wrong” by Chris Stapleton. Noting that he was the only one who turned around for Jesse, Adam said that he believes that Jesse is the best they have on the show.
Team Blake’s Aliyah Mouldin finished out the night with “I Can Only Image” by MercyMe. Blake noted that he signed on to do the show in 2011 hoping that one day he would be able to work with an artist like Aliyah; adding that she is the model “The Voice” contestant.
