Brief Bachelorette Recap May 29, 2017:

Rachel charmed everyone on Nick Viall’s season and was one of the finalists at the end, which is why she was chosen to be the bachelorette this year.  She is bright, beautiful and a Dallas attorney.   In this week’s episode she started out with 23 men, after sending eight home last week.

After the bachelors moved into the mansion, eight of them were chosen for the first group date.   The guys chosen for this date were Dean, Jack, Jonathan, Blake, Iggy, Kenny, Fred and Lucas.  The men first got to play a little football.  They almost immediately began to question Lucas about his motives for coming on the show.  Rachel then announced she was looking for “husband material” and they would have to prove their ability to change diapers on dolls, wear a baby Bjorn and pull a hair rope out of a clogged sink, among other obstacles.  They were surprised to learn that Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis would be their judges during their “husband material obstacle course.”  Of course, this was good for a lot of laughs!  One of the bachelors was particularly aggressive during the competition, which was not a surprise with all these type-A competitors.  Lucas won the competition and he had the opportunit to talk to Rachel first.  However, Dean is the one who received the group date rose.

The next day, Peter was the first bachelor to get a one-on-one date.  Rachel, Peter and her dog Copper went to the very upscale La Quinta Resort in Palm Springs to attend the “Bark Fest pool party.”  Afterwards, the couple had a romantic dinner, a discussion about their lives and enjoyed a fireworks display.  Rachel gave him the one-on-one date rose.

Ten of the remaining bachelors were named for the second group date:  Will, Jamey, Diggy, Alex, Adam, Lee, Matt, Eric, Josiah, and DeMario. The group enjoyed a game of basketball, coached by former NBA All-Star player Kareem Abdul Jabbar.  Kareem pointed out that basketball is a good way to see someone’s character and how good they are at teamwork. Once they had practiced a little, they played a game in front of a huge crowd.  There was even a band and cheerleaders!  At least one of the men began to show off for the crowd.  Most of the men were not very good, but they had fun. Whether any of them end up with Rachel or not, this is sure to be an experience they will tell their children about.

Sadly, Rachel felt betrayed during this week’s basketball game, when a woman named Lexi approached Rachel and told her that DeMario had been her boyfriend for the past 7 months.  She said he was a liar and still had the keys to her apartment.  She said that he had disappeared for three days and suddenly she saw on TV that he was going to be on The Bachelorette.  This was certainly a sour experience for Rachel so early in her journey, and she confronted DeMario immediately.  Initially, DeMario denied knowing Lexi. Then he admitted knowing her, but said it had been a long time ago.  However, Lexi had text messages which proved their relationship.  Rachel told him to leave, although he protested her decision.

Rachel then went into the locker room and told the other guys what happened and that she did not “want to be played.” After that incident, she quickly realized she had to stay focused on the remaining men.

During the date night cocktail party, the remaining men on the group date were also indignant about what happened and tried to comfort her.  Josiah received the group date rose.

There was one more surprise this week during the evening of the rose ceremony, when DeMario  unexpectedly showed up to see Rachel.  She was uncertain, but decided to talk to him since there was security standing by.  She went out to talk to him, with the men following and saying they were going to make him leave.

There was no time for a rose ceremony, so we will have to wait until next week to see who she sent home.

Before you see the list of the men that Rachel kept this evening, find out what she told People about her impression of the men after she met them last week:

With a couple of exceptions, nearly all the men have at least their Bachelor’s Degree in a variety of fields.  Some of them have a Master’s Degree, Law Degree or Medical Degree.  This year’s cast is very well educated, which is appropriate since she is a successful attorney.  The ones with an * at the end of their bio are the men to watch this season.  Rumor is that they will be the finalists … although rumors this early in the season are not always correct.
