London Bridge Station After ‘Major Police Incident’

England’s London Bridge Station has been closed at the request of the police, after what has been dubbed a “major police incident.” Unconfirmed reports state gunshots and a possible stabbing, after a van hit pedestrians after speeding down the road.

A witness states that a white van ran into around five or six people (although some witnesses say 15-20), speeding across the pavement and towards the Shard area. Metropolitan Police has confirmed that there is “an incident on London Bridge” but has refused to reveal any more. Armed police are at the scene.

Trains that go through the station are off, and will stay that way until the end of the service. Buses are being diverted around the area, as some of the roads are closed around London Bridge.

Witnesses say that three men carrying knives jumped out of a white van, attacking people in the street. The Met Police state that there are a lot of statements about the “major police incident” on Twitter, but have not confirmed reports of a terror attack just yet. The police want to be accurate in any statements released about this attack on London Bridge.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan urges everyone to follow the Met Police Twitter page for the real facts.

Twitter users within the area are online and willing to help people. Regardless of terror attack or not, they want to make sure people not local to the area are safe. London Bridge is one of the most popular parts of London for tourists.

The incident follows two recent attacks in England. Manchester Arena was the target less than two weeks ago. Westminster Bridge witnessed a similar incident as this one tonight on London Bridge in March.

More news coming after Met Police confirms the nature of the incident.

Update: Police now say that authorities are now in Borough Market. British radio station LBC states there are about 40 police cars at London Bridge and local bars and restaurants have been evacuated.

Update 2: Met Police have updated with news that armed officers responded and shots were fired. The police are now responding to another incident in the Vauxhall area.

According to a LBC’s correspondent , police are chasing a white man in the London Bridge area. Police are telling all those in the area to get out of the area.

Police with dogs have gone into Monument Underground station.  A police cordoned area has been drawn at King William Street.

It is currently unclear whether the man was involved in the London Bridge attack.

Update 3: Prime Minister Theresa May says the incidents in London are being treated as acts of terrorism. UK police has declared the incidents terrorist incidents.

Update 4: Met Police state that London Bridge and Borough Markets have been declared as terrorist attacks. The incident in Vauxhall was a stabbing and not related to the other two attacks.
