June 14, 2017 The gunman in Wednesday morning’s attack that injured Majority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise and 4 others has been identified as James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., according to law enforcement officials.
According to a Washington Post report, Hodgkinson, 66, owns a home inspection business in Illinois but according to state records his license expired in November 2016, and was not renewe. A motive for Wednesday morning’s shooting at Simpson Park is unclear.
Alexandria Police Chief, Michael Brown said Wednesday morning’s shooting that injured 5 people including Rep. #SteveScalise was a “deliberate attack.” Two Capitol Police officers charged with protecting Rep. Scalise were also shot during the attack. A Congressional Aide was also injured in the shooting.
FBI special agent in charge of the investigation, Tim Slater said it was too early to say if the shooter was targeting Republicans.
