NASCAR Issues Sonoma and Iowa Penalties

After the races in Sonoma and Iowa this past weekend, NASCAR has issued penalties to one Monster Energy Cup and one Xfinity Series driver.

The Joe Gibbs Racing number 18 M&M’s car driven by Kyle Busch was charged with not having all 20 of its lug nuts properly installed during post race inspection. As a result of the penalty, interim crew chief Ben Beshore has been fined $20,000 and must serve a one race suspension.

The M&M’s team was already working under encumbered conditions when regular crew chief Adam Stevens was suspended for four races after the June 4 race in Dover, Delaware when Busch’s car lost a wheel during the race. Stevens is set to serve his final race suspension this coming weekend when the Monster Energy Cup Series travels to Daytona International Speedway for the Coke Zero 400.

Joe Gibbs Racing has named team engineer Jacob Canter as the crew chief for the race in Daytona.

In the Xfinity Series, the Richard Childress Racing number 21 car driven by Daniel Hemric was penalized for not having all 20 of its lug nuts properly installed at post race inspection. As a result, crew chief Danny Stockman Jr has been fined $5,000
