ASCAP Presents R&B Song Awards

On June 22 the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers held their annual Rhythm and Soul Music Awards at The Beverly Wilshire in Los Angeles. Two thousand seventeen marked the 30th anniversary of the awards.

The by invitation event was in celebration of the songwriters and publishers who had the most performed R&B songs over the past year.

Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace received the ASCAP Founders Award. The iconic rapper died 20 years ago. The award was accepted by his widow Faith Evans and his children.

The duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were awarded the ASCAP Voice of Music Award for creating music that is the spirit of a generation. The duo are also set to be among the newest members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The Voice of Music Award’s recipients include Mary J Blige, Diane Warren, Trisha Yearwood, The Doobie Brothers, Jimmy Webb, George Strait, and Garth Brooks.

Allen Ritter and Paul “Nineteen85” Jeffries tied for the title of ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Songwriter of the Year.
