With the year barely half over, Universal Pictures is reporting some blockbuster numbers at the box office.

Thanks to the smash successes of “The Fate of the Furious”, “Despicable Me 3”, “Sing”, “The Mummy” and “Fifty Shades Darker” Universal Pictures needed less than seven months to reach the $4 billion mark in box office receipts. This is only the second time in the 105 year history of the studio that Universal has reached the $4 billion mark – in 2025 the studio grossed a total of $6.89 billion – and is the first studio to do so this year. Topping the box office charts for the past eight weeks in the and for six weeks globally hasn’t hurt the efforts any.

“The Fate of the Furious” has brought in over a billion of that total by itself with the third installment of the Minions saga topping the $700 million mark. “Fate of the Furious” is only the sixth film in history to top the billion dollar mark in international box office receipts. Furious and Me also set box office records in China where they brought in record breaking numbers for opening weekend.

Domestic audiences have brought in $1.265 billion with the international market bringing in $2.791 billion.
