NFL Begins 2017 Season with Hall of Fame Game

The 2017/18 professional football season gets under way on August 3 in Canton, Ohio with the annual Hall of Fame game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys.

Attired in polo shirts – the gold jackets come at the gala dinner on Friday night – the 2017 NFL Hall of Fame inductees were announced to the fans – Kurt Warner, Ladainian Tomlinson, Kenny Easley, Jason Taylor, Morten Andersen, Terrell Davis, and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

The players reported to pre-season camp only a few days ago but will take to the field to get the pre-season started. As a result many of the expected starters will not participate in the game.

After winning the coin toss, the Arizona Cardinas choose to receive the ball first.

The game begins with a touch back. In their first possession the Arizona Cardinals went 75 yards on three completed passes and five runs including a five yard touchdown run and a good extra point to take the lead 7-0.

The Dallas Cowboys begin their first possession of the game by taking the short kick on the 15 yard line. The Cowboys begin their possession on the 24 yard line. After going three and out the Cowboys punt the ball.

The Cardinals begin their second possession on the 36 yard line after the Cowboys are penalized for defensive pass interference. Beginning the possession with a run for a two yard loss and a tackle for no gain, the Arizona Cardinals march down the field with four more completed passes and two runs including a run to the touchdown to go 64 yards to bring the score to 13-0. After kicking an extra point, the Cardinals decide to go for two when Dallas is penalized for an illegal formation that cut the distance in half. On the incomplete pass attempt for two points, the Dallas Cowboys were again penalized, this time for defensive pass interference. From The 18 inch line, the Cardinals make the two point conversion to go up by 15 points.

Cardinals 15 – Cowboys 0

The Cowboys take over possession of the ball on the seven yard line after a short kick off and runs for 22 yards but a defensive holding call put the Cowboys back to the eleven yard line. The Cowboys marched 89 yards down the field with three complete passes including a completed pass for a touchdown on a third and eleven. The extra point is good.

Cardinals 15 – Cowboys 7

Dallas Cowboys player Anthony Brown is out for the rest of the game due to injury.

The Cardinals bring the ball out from the end zone to start their drive on the 38 yard line. The quarter comes to an end after a one yard run and a completed pass for 29 yards.

End of first quarter: Cardinals 15 – Cowboys 7

The Cardinals continue their possession as the second quarter begins but after a four yard run and a sack of the quarterback, the Cardinals are forced to punt the ball.

After taking over the ball on their own eight yard line, the Cowboys work their way down the field with five runs, a defensive pass interference call, and one complete pass before kicking a field goal.

Cardinals 15 – Cowboys 10

The Cardinals take over the ball on the 40 yard line after the kick off went out of bounds but failed to take advantage of the field position going three and out before punting the ball.

Dallas takes over the ball on the 24 yard line. With the help of some penalties, the Cowboys march down the field with four complete passes and two runs only to have the ball intercepted in the end zone.

The Cardinals take over possession of the ball on the 20 yard line. Despite three first down passes in a row, the Cardinals failed to score on a missed 51 yard field goal that went wide left.

With only two seconds remaining in the half, the Cowboys take a kneel down to end the half.

When the third quarter begins the Cowboys get the ball first after a touch back. After three runs and three complete passes, the Cowboys take the ball into the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point is good.

Cardinals 15 – Cowboys 17

The Cardinals take over possession of the ball on the 20 yard line after a touch back but with the help of a false start penalty go three and out and punt the ball.

The Cowboys take over possession of the ball on the 23 yard line. The Cowboys go three and out and punt the ball.

After a block in the back penalty on the kickoff, the Cardinals take over possession of the ball on the 30 yard line. After a first down the Cardinals are down by contact when the ball comes out at the end of a play. Dallas challenges the call but the play is confirmed and Arizona holds on to possession of the ball. The Cardinals make a 40 yard field goal attempt on the fourth down and brings the score to 18-17.

Cardinals 18 – Cowboys 17

After a touch back, the Cowboys take over the ball on the 25 yard line. Despite four runs and a completed pass, the Cowboys had to punt the ball after not being able to overcome a false start penalty.

The Cardinals take over the ball on the six yard line and go three and out. The third quarter ends during the possession.

End of three: Cardinals 18 – Cowboys 17

The cowboys take over the ball at mid-field after the punt. After three runs and a completed pass the Cowboys kick a field goal to go up 20-18.

Cardinals 18 – Cowboys 20

The Cardinals bring the kickoff out of the end zone up to the 23 yard line. After four runs, a complete pass, and a defensive face mask penalty the Cardinals make a 32 field goal attempt which is no good.

The Cowboys take over possession of the ball on the 22 yard line and go three and out.

The Cardinals take over possession of the ball on the 40 yard line and go three and out. The Cardinals made a play for the ball after the catch was missed but it was ruled that the Cardinals made an illegal touch.

The Cowboys take possession of the ball on the 25 yard line. Moving down the field the Cowboys were charged with an illegal block in the back penalty and an offensive holding penalty – which was declined – and were the beneficiary of a 12 men on the field penalty but could not take advantage of them and had to punt the game with only 43 seconds remaining in the game.

Taking over the ball on the 20 yard line, the Cardinals have no time outs and are unable to capitalize and move down the field for a score.

Final score: Cardinals 18 – Cowboys 20
