Christmas in July isn’t just for retailers looking to make an early sale. It is also the time when musicians record their holiday music albums.
World music artists Sultans of String have recorded a holiday album due for release in December “Christmas Caravan” features the signature sound of the band performing with artists from around the world recreating holiday tunes from various cultures including African, Ska, Turkish, Czech, Latin, and Quebecois.
With a total of 28 Juno, Grammy, and Latin Grammy Awards between them Paddy Maloney of The Chieftains, Ruben Blades, Luba Mason, Nikki Yanofsky, Alex Cuba, Benoit Bourque of Quebec, the all female African American A Cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock, Cameroon native Richard Bona, Rebecca Campbell, Istanbul violinists Turkish Roma, Sudanese native Waleed Abdulhamid, Canadian Country singer Crystal Shawanda, sitar virtuoso Anwar Khurshid, and Mary Fahl all appear on the new holiday album “Christmas Caravan” with Sultans of String.
Band members are asking fans for a little help in completing their sixth studio album with a crowdfunding campaign that includes pre-ordering the album and having it autographed and shipped before the official release date, front row seats at the album release show, concert tickets, private concerts, and even an executive producer credit on the album.
