Red Flags and Hometown Winner Mark Mid-Ohio Challenge

The Xfinity Series goes road racing for a second week in a row when they travel to Mid-Ohio for the Mid-Ohio Challenge.

With a stand alone event this week, there are no Monster Energy Cup Series drivers participating in the Xfinity Series race this week.

After two rounds of qualifying, Sam Hornish Jr will sit on the pole and bring the field down for the green flag start of the race.

Regan Smith qualified in 12th place after the first round but had some issues with his car and took it to the garage for repairs and did not make a second round run. He will have to start the race from the back of the field after making unapproved adjustments in a n impound race.

Stages one and two of the race are 20 laps each with stage three lasting 35 laps.

Sam Hornish Jr brings the field down for the green flag start of the race and takes over the lead of the race.

Cole Custer’s car was smoking and takes his car to pit road.

Drivers are getting into the sand off of the track but the track stays green…and they havent completed the first lap yet.

Sheldon Creed is also on pit road with transmission issues.

The first caution flag of the race comes out on lap two for fluid on the track from Cole Custter’s car.

Sam Hornish Jr leads the race with Elliott Sadler right on his bumper.

Matt Tifft’s tachometer is not working and he must rely on the sound of the engine to help him determine speed estimates.

Cole Custer’s car is still on pit road with a tow truck behind him.

After a lengthy track cleanup, Sam Hornish Jr brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap seven and edges out Elliott Sadler for the lead of the race.

Anthony Kumpen goes on an off road excursion and has difficulty getting back on the track.

Lap nine Sam Hornish Jr has a one second lead on Elliott Sadler.

Lap 12 Sam Hornish continues to lead the race with 36 cars on the lead lap. Jeff Green is off the track.

Lap 13 Regan Smith is in the top 10 after starting the race at the back of the field.

Regan Smith spins out trying to pass and gets off the track into the sand trap but gets the car moving again and back on the track.

Lap 15 Sam Hornish Jr continues to dominate the lead but the second caution flag of the race comes out after Matt Bell runs through the sand and into the tire wall before landing on top of the retaining wall for a hard hit. Bell moves the wall with his hit. He walks away from the wreck but must go to the infield care center to be checked out.

NASCAR has red flagged the race.

After over 13 minutes of a red flag condition, NASCAR pulls the red flag and displays the yellow flag as the first stage of the race nears an end.

Once pit road opens many of the drivers come down for service. Elliott Sadler stays out on the track taking over the lead and looking for stage and playoff points. Sadler has earned the most stage points this season, but has yet to win a race.

With only three laps remaining in the stage, Elliott Sadler brings the field down for the green flag restart and gets out in front of Blake Kock for the lead of the race.

Blake Koch passes Brennan Poole for the lead of the race as Ryan Reed pressures Poole for second.

Leader Blake Koch had a long pit stop after not stopping in his pit box.

Brennan Poole leads the race off of pit road.

Ryan Reed brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two on lap 23 but Daniel Hemric jumps out to take over the lead of the race.

With fresh tire, the drivers are looking to make some bold moves vying for position.

Sam Hornish Jr passes Daniel Hemric for the lead of the race on lap 24.

Sheldon Creed spins out in the grass but gets back on the track.

Lap 26 Sam Hornish Jr continues to lead the race.

Elliott Sadler brings his car down pit road for an unscheduled pit stop with a flat tire on lap 28.

Ryan Reed has yet to make a pit stop, but holds on to a spot in the top 10.

After spinning out, Ryan Reed’s crew calls him to come down pit road on lap 32.

Sam Hornish Jr has a lead of over three seconds over Daniel Hemric.

Lap 33 Sam Hornish Jr’s lead is now up to four seconds on Daniel Hemric.

Lap 34 Sam Hornish Jr’s lead is now up to four and a half seconds on Daniel Hemric.

Lap 38 Sam Hornish Jr has a four second lead on Daniel Hemric.

The drivers bring their cars down pit road for service. For some drivers this will be their last pit stop.

Daniel Hemric brings the field down for the green flag start of stage three and gets past Sam Hornish Jr from the outside lane to take over the lead of the race.

Lap 45 Sam Hornish Jr challenges Daniel Hemric for the lead with Sam Hornish Jr finally getting out in front for the lead of the race.

Sam Hornish Jr brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 51 with Hornish edging out Daniel Hemric and Justin Allgaier for the lead but going into turn two Daniel Hemric gives Hornish a challenge for the lead but Hornish holds on.

Brennan Pool and Blake Koch are among the drivers who bring out the caution flag for a big wreck after some aggressive driving. Ryan Reed, Jeremy Clements, and Spencer Gallagher were also involved. Blake Koch is on pit road with a lot of car damage. The crew has five minutes to get the car raceable and able to make minimum speed. Jeremy Clements had his car towed off the track.

Sam Hornish Jr brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 57 with Hornish and Daniel Hemric nose to nose before Hemric edges past Hornish for the lead.

The seventh caution flag of the race comes out when Justin Marks and Ryan Reed crash. After contact with Regan Smith, Marks spins out, with nowhere to go, Ryan Reed slams into Marks sending the rear of the car into the air.

Daniel Hemric brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 61 and jumps out in front of the field and pulling away.

Sam Hornish Jr catches and passes Daniel Hemric to take over the lead of the race.

James Davisson gets off the track losing second place. Ross Chastain gets off the track.

Eleven to go and Sam Hornish Jr leads the race by over two seconds on Brendan Gaughan.

Casey Mears brings out the caution flag after he blows an engine.

Sam Hornish Jr brings the field down for the green flag restart with only eight laps remaining in the race and gets a challenge from Brendan Gaughan but holds on to the lead as the caution flag comes out for a big crash involving J.J. Yeley, William Byron, Dylan Lupton, Josh Bilicki, Justin Allagaier, and Michael Annett.

NASCAR brings out the red flag for the second time in the race.

After a red flag condition of over 10 minutes, NASCAR brings out the caution flag with only seven laps remaining in the race. Sam Hornish Jr leads the race.

Choosing the inside lane, Sam Hornish Jr brings the field down for the green flag restart with only five laps remaining in the race and gets out in front of the field to lead the race.

Scott Lagasse Jr gets off the track with four laps remaining in the race.
