Last week the All Stars of “So You Think You Can Dance” revealed their top 10, but tonight one of them will become the first dancer to go home with the first fan vote.
The night of music and dance kicks off with a Disco group performance to “You Should Be Dancing by the BeeGees choreographed by Mandy Moore and Valentin Chmerkovskiy.
Last week the top 10 dancers performed dances in their or their All Star’s own style but this week they will be taken out of their comfort zone for the couple dance. This week the top 10 will also be performing a solo for the first time to show off their own style.
The first couple on the dance floor was Mark and Comfort with a Ray Leeper Jazz routine that host Cat Deely called a “hot one”. Vanessa noted what a way to start the show; adding that the dance was hot and steamy and so kinetic in the way that they moved. Mary said that it was an amazing number and she couldn’t keep her eyes off of Mark. Noting that Comfort gets stronger every season, Nigel said Mark’s focus and sharpness impressed him.
Koine performed her solo.
Logan performed his solo.
Lex and Gaby performed an Argentine Tango choreographed by Miriam and Leonardo. Mary noted that there were some awkward moments in the dance but there were also some spectacular moments in the dance. While Mary wanted more sensuality in the dance, she noted that there was some incredible choreography and a great performance. Nigel said that Lex was strong and had good focus. Vanessa said that the Tango looked good on them.
Taylor performed her solo.
Kiki and Jenna performed a Luther Brown Hip-Hop routine that had Nigel saying Kiki has shown the reason why he is there. Kiki had a lot of trouble in Academy week during the Hip-Hop round. Vanessa said they completely crushed it. Mary said that she isn’t worried anymore and that the dance was a game changer for Kiki.
Kaylee performed her solo.
Sydney and Paul performed a Jaci Royal Contemporary routine that Vanessa called a beautiful piece and a gorgeous routine; adding that Sydney had stunning control. Mary called the dance sweet and tender; adding that Sydney had some great transitions in her movement. Nigel said that he felt the emotion; adding that there was nothing better than dance to show emotion.
Robert performed his solo.
Dassy performed her solo.
Last week Allison was unable to dance due to a shoulder injury. This week she is better and ready to join Logan on the dance floor. The performed a Brian Friedman Jazz routine of a futuristic blind date. Cat loved the routine and said that it was well done. Mary said that she didn’t think there was anything Logan couldn’t do; adding that Logan was a truly gifted man. Nigel said that Logan showed he was capable of anything. Vaness said that she was blown away by Logan and gave her so many moments of wow.
During the Los Angeles auditions a young dancer showed off her Step Dance skills. While she didn’t make the show, Nigel was impressed with what she did and asked that she bring her team to the show for a performance. Joined by the All Stars, they took the stage for a performance.
Lex performed his solo.
Kaylee and Cyrus performed a Pharside and Phoenix Hip-Hop routine as aliens placed into human bodies. Cat noted that she saw moves she had never seen before.
Calling it a fantastic routine, Nigel said that the dance was strong and they made it look fantastic. With some unique moves. Saying that they brought the heat, Vanessa said that she couldn’t keep her eyes off of Kaylee. Saying that there was some strong dancing, Mary noted that the duo looked good together.
Taylor and Robert performed an Al Blackstone Broadway routine to the music of Judy Garland that was inspired by the Film Noir of the forties and the classic Fred and Ginger routines. The routine brought the judges to their feet and host Cat Deely noting that it was really good. Saying that Taylor has a way of making her cry, Vanessa called the dance gorgeous and took her back to seeing musical theatre for the first time. Mary didn’t want the number to end; adding that it took her to another era. Nigel loves the style; saying that they were the couple to beat.
Sydney performed her solo.
Koine and Marco performed an African Jazz number by Sean Cheeseman that had the duo portraying insects. Saying that it was very well danced, Nigel noted that the dance had some incredible intricacy. Vanessa called the duo insane together; adding that it was cannibalistic, insane, dynamic, and fierce. Noting the great costumes this week, Mary called the dance one of her favourties tonight.
Mark performed his solo.
Robert and Jasmine performed a Stacey Tookey Contemporary routine that Cat called absolutely gorgeous. Nigel said that he didn’t quite feel the emotions. Noting that it was great seeing Robert do Contemporary, Vanessa called the relationship gorgeous. Mary said that she felt it; adding that the two made a connection.
Kiki performed his solo.
In the final dance of the night, Dassy and Fik-Shun performed a Bollywood routine that had Vanessa saying was amazing and so fun with incredible shapes. Calling it a visual feast, Mary noted that Dassy made it look easy. Noting the incredible costumes, Nigel said that it was a great routine and a fun way to end the night.
IN the first results of the season…Cat Deely revealed that Logan, Sydney, and Robert were in the bottom three and in danger of going home. Saying that he was shocked at the bottom three, Nigel also noted that since there are so many great dancers this season, they are always going to be surprised at who is in the bottom three.
Saying that Logan has shown what he is capable of, Nigel told Logan that he is safe.
Noting that it was tough deciding who to keep, Nigel noted that last week Sydney was not great last week but was great this week and Robert was great last week but not so much this week. With that Nigel said that the decision was not unanimous and named Robert as the dancer going home.
Next week the nine remaining dancers will perform and another dancer will be eliminated.
