Niagara Falls Creates Musical Hall of Fame

Niagara Falls is best known for its majestic waterfalls that tumble 182 feet into the Niagara Gorge.

But the city produces more than a breathtaking view of Niagara’s three Falls; the city is also rich with musical culture from the area music schools to the local performers and those who may not call western New York home but have left their musical mark on the area…and the nation.

Now, a project that has been a number of years in the making is set to honour some of those musicians when the newly formed Niagara Falls Music Hall of Fame inducts its inaugural class this fall.

While the list of honourees for the inaugural class is a long one, the names were not just drawn from the proverbial hat but went through a qualification and application process that not only looked at the place where the musician were born; but also at their musical contributions to the area through performances and contributions to the community. The longevity of the artist is also a criteria for admission into the Hall of Fame.

On Oct 15 the FMHOF will officially induct the first class of Hall of Fame members in a gala event at the LaSalle Yacht Club on 68th Street. The event is open to the public. Tickets are only $5 in advance and $7 at the door. The festivities are set to begin at 2pm.

Along with the induction ceremony there will be plenty of entertainment with all members present performing and a special performance by Grammy Academy recording artist Christina Custode.

Many of the posthumous inductees were influential members of the old Musicians Union; while others are keeping the rich musical heritage of Niagara Falls alive.
