Play is an integral part of every child’s development and while over the years there have been toys that have come and gone, there are others that have stood the test of time to last for generations – past, present, and future.
It is these toys and other items of play that the National Toy Hall of Fame honours each year with a new class of inductees.
On September 12 The Strong Museum released the nominees for the 2017 class. This year’s list of nominees includes games and toys to spark the imagination and creativity.
Voting is open to the public at toyhalloffame.org. The winners will be announced on November 9.
In order to be nominated for induction into the Toy Hall of Fame, a toy must have reached iconic status, have multi generational longevity, fosters creativity, and has sparked innovation.
To date only 63 toys have made it into the National Toy Hall of Fame including the little green army men, the cardboard box, LEGOs, Raggedy Ann and Andy, the blanket, Silly Putty, Crayola Crayons, Mr. Potato Head, rubber duckie, and the jump rope.
