After the races last weekend in Richmond, three teams were charged with penalties that resulted in fines but not suspensions or loss in points as the Monster Energy Cup Series heads into the first round of the playoffs.
When NASCAR conducted their post race inspections, it was discovered that two cars in the Monster Energy Cup Series and one car in the Xfinity Series had loose lug nuts.
In the Monster Energy Cup Series the number 41 Stewart-Haas Racing car driven by Kurt Busch and the number 77 Furniture Row Racing car driven by Erik Jones each had one of their 20 lug nuts loose. As a result of the infractions Crew Chief for the number 41 Tony Gibson and Crew Chief for the number 77 Chris Gayle received fines of $10,000 each.
In the Xfinity Series the Joe Gibbs Racing number 19 car driven by Matt Tifft also had one of his lug nuts loose. Crew Chief Matthew Beckman was issued a fine for $5,000.
Also this week as the playoff are set to begin, Joe Gibbs Racing swapped the over the wall crews for the number 18 Kyle Busch and the number 19 Daniel Suarez.
