Las Vegas Gunman Planned Attack on Lollapalooza in Chicago

October 5, 2017 Investigators have discovered that the Las Vegas shooter plotted attacks on several other large concerts in the months leading up to Sunday’s massacre including Lallapalooza in Chicago.

TMZ first reported that Stephen Paddock, 64, booked two rooms facing Grant Park, where the Lallapolooza festival was held from August 3 to August 6, at the Blackstone Hotel — but he never showed. A spokeswoman for the hotel said in a statement:

“We can confirm that a reservation was made under the name Stephen Paddock; however, authorities have not confirmed that this is the same person as the Las Vegas shooter,” said hotel spokeswoman Emmy Carragher.

According to Blackstone Hotel policy, rooms with a view overlooking the Lallapolooza fest cannot be guaranteed. Notes in the computer show someone named Stephen Paddock was able to pursuade someone to break that hotel rule and guarantee him a room with a view. The hotel is now trying to figure out how that happened.

Law enforcement officials now know Paddock also booked rooms at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas strip during the Life Is Beautiful music festival in September. It is unclear why the other plans were not executed.

Some terrorists prefer “soft targets” where security is lax to guarantee attacks are successful. Former U.S. President Barack Obama’s daughter, Malia attended the Lallapolooza festival this Summer, and both Malia and Sasha Obama have attended in previous years. The additional security detail may have dissuaded the gunman.
