After numerous delays the latest chapter of the “Star Trek” franchise – “Star Trek: Discovery” – finally aired on CBS in September. After the initial debut on CBS, the series was moved to the online pay service CBS All Access where it has received mixed reviews.
Despite the negative remarks on social media about the new look of the Kingons, the amount of profanity, and the general swerving away from long established “Star Trek” norms; the series has not only received the order for a full season, but has already been renewed for another season.
Season two is expected to air in the second half of 2018.
While CBS has not issued any viewer numbers, CBS All Access has boasted a record subscriber increase.
“Discovery” is a prequel series that takes place in the years prior to the timeline for the original series but after the the timeline for “Enterprise” at a time when the Federation is at war with the Klingon Empire.
“Star Trek: Discovery” stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Mary Chieffo, and James Frain.
