Bubba filled in for Almirola after a hard crash at Kansas SPeedway resulted in a broken back for Almirola. In the four races that Wallace drove during Almirola’s injury, Wallace finished in the top 20 for three of the four races; with his best finish being in eleventh place at Kentucky Speedway.
Wallace has won six races in the Camping World Truck Series. When Roush-Fenway Racing closed down its Xfinity Series team after 12 races earlier this season, Wallace was fourth in the points standings.
Wallace came to NASCAR as a part of its Drive for Diversity program. In 1963 African-American driver Wendell Scott became the first driver of colour to win a race in one of NASCAR’s top three divisions. With his first win in the CWTS, Bubba Walace, who states that he is biracial, became the second.
