Stewart-Haas Names #10 Car Driver

This NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series season has seen several drivers leaving or changing teams.

Earlier this season it was announced that Danica Patrick would not be returning to the number 10 Stewart-Haas car next season.

Petty Motorsports also revealed that the current driver of the iconic number 43 car Aric Almirola would no be driving the number 43 next season. Petty later announced that Darrell Wallace Jr would be taking over the driving duties next season for Petty Motorsports.

Bubba Wallace sat in for Almirola in four races when Almirola was out after suffering a back injury in Kansas last May.

Today – November 8 – Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart announced that Aric Almirola will be taking over the driving duties for the number 10 car beginning next season. Smithfield Foods will be the primary sponsor for the car.

Speaking on the opportunity Almirola said, “this is an unbelievable day for me to have this opportunity. I’ve worked my whole life, my whole career for an opportunity like this — to come and be a part of a championship organization.”

Car owner Tony Stewart spoke on the decision saying, “I’m real excited to have him on board. I’ve known Aric for a long time. We were teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing for a brief period and we’re really good friends, too. We go to dirt races together and hang out and I think this is an opportunity we’ve both been looking forward to for a very long time.”

Almirola will be joining Stewart-Haas Racing drivers Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, and Kurt Busch.
