Hall of Famer Cortez Kennedy Has Died

NFL Hall of Famer Cortez Kennedy has died. The former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle died May 23 in Orlando, Florida at the age of 48. Orlando police report that Kennedy was alone at the time of his death but did not consider the death suspicious.

Kennedy was an eight time pro bowl player – including six in a row -, was the 1992 Defensive Player of the Year, had 58 career sacks, and was voted all pro three times. He was a part of the 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. He was the tenth Seahawks player inducted into the Ring of Honour after spending his entire eleven year career with the Seahawks and the third player to have his jersey number retired by the team.

Kennedy was born on August 23, 1968 in Osceola, Arkansas. He was drafted third overall in the NFL draft after going to college at the University of Miami.

Kennedy is survived by his parents and daughter Courtney.
