Breaking News: Members of Congress Involved in Train Accident
Wednesday morning, members of Congress, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, were travelling to a retreat were involved in an accident where the train they were onboard hit a truck. The Amtrak train crashed with the truck in Crozet, which is west of Charlottesville, West Virginia. So far, there have been no injuries reported to the members of Congress but there are injuries to those in the truck.
According to Amtrak, the train left Union Station early Wednesday with the train not only carrying members of Congress but their families as well. One member of the House Representative John Faso, (R-NY) stated that he was unaware of any injuries on board of the train. “There was (what) looks like a tractor trailer carrying trash that was hit by the train,” Faso, who said he was in the third car of the train, told CNN.
According to memos regarding the retreat, the Republican members of Congress were on their way for a retreat at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The retreat was to start Wednesday and to end on Friday. The retreat would also welcome Vice President Mike Pence, who was not on the train, who was scheduled to speak to members later Wednesday and President Donald Trump is scheduled to address the event tomorrow.
More update to follow as members of Congress are tweeting photos of the accident such as Representative Jeff Denham of California and Representative Bradley Byrne of Alabama who tweeted that he and his wife were not injured.
