Night Court’s Judge Harry T. Stone Dies

Actor Harry Anderson died April 16 in Asheville, North Carolina at the age of 65. Asheville Police found Anderson dead on the scene at his home but do not suspect four play; but gave no official cause of death.

While he appeared in a number of productions, Anderson is best known for his role as Judge Harry T. Stone on the Emmy Award winning sitcom “Night Court”. Anderson’s character mirrored his own personality in choice of hobbies, music, and flashy attire. Anderson considered himself a magician first, not an actor and earned a living as a magician before becoming an actor.

Anderson made his acting debut in 1982 in the TV movie “Twilight Theater”. From there he appeared in a variety of productions including “The Escape Artist”, “Tales from the Darkside”, “Tales from the Crypt”, “It”, 193 episodes of “Night Court”, six episodes of “Cheers”, “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”, 98 episodes as Dave Barry on “Dave’s World”, “30 Rock” and his final appearance in 2014 on “A Matter of Faith”

Anderson also wrote a number of episodes for “Dave’s World”, “Harry Anderson: The Tricks of His Trade”, “Tales from the Crypt”, “Harry Anderson’s Hello Sucker”, “The Young Comedians All-Star Reunion”, and “Night Court”.

For a time Anderson and his wife owned a nightclub – Oswald’s Speakeasy – but were forced to close the club after Hurricane Katrina. It was then that he moved to Asheveille.

He was born Harry Laverne Anderson on October 14, 1052 in Newport, Rhode Island; one of three children.

Anderson is survived by his second wife Elizabeth and children Eva Fay and Dashiell.
