FASTag has become mandatory from the 15th of February, 2020. If a vehicle without a FASTag enters the FASTag lane of the toll booths, the fees charged would be double than normal. Also, all lanes in the fee plazas would be FASTag lanes from the said day. FASTag had been introduced in 2016 and is ow mandatory. The digital payment reduces the waiting time and also the fuel consumed while waiting in toll booths. But how do you perform FASTag recharge? Let us look into some of the easiest ways.
- Through your banks – FASTag is a device that uses Radio Frequency Identification to make the toll payments directly from the prepaid accounts linked. It is attached to the windscreen of the car. It allows driving the vehicle through toll plazas without the need to stop for cash transactions. Now, these prepaid accounts are created through banks. It is possible to use the services of a bank even if you do not hold an account with them. You can recharge through NEFT or IMPS. Auto-debit features will not be available for those who do not hold an account with the bank.
- Paytm Payments Bank FASTag – Even Paytm Payments Bank brings you the option to do FASTag recharge. Considering the fact that a lot of people use services from Paytm, recharging your FASTag here makes sense. If you are already using the app, it will be easier to recharge your FAStag through this app. You might even get some discounts or cashback. You could even use PhonePe to recharge your FASTag. However, PhonePe only allows you to make the payments, it does not create an account for you. You will be able to recharge your FAStag through other payment gateways too.
- Airtel Payments Bank FASTag – Another place where you can recharge your FASTag is the Airtel Payments Bank website. You can create your FAStage account here and recharge it whenever you want. This is certainly a much better option than the other modes of online FASTag recharge. Also, the Airtel Payments Bank website offers generous cashback on every transaction. So, it reduces the amount you spend on a recharge. The website is very simple and you can make the electricity, gas, water bill payment, and other payments through different modes. You have the option to pay through net banking, debit, and a credit card or through UPI. However, you would need to complete your KYC, as mandated by the Reserve Bank of India.
So, when you want to recharge your FASTag online, you have multiple options available. Depending on what you find suitable, you can use any of these options to recharge FASTag. However, you should ensure that you have created your FASTag account and have a sufficient balance before you enter a toll booth.
